The Premier Sustainable Destination for Luxury Holidays in Greece
By Loukia Zigoumis
From breathtaking scenery, local cuisine, ancient sites, and museums—there is so much to discover on Greece’s mainland. The region of Messini in Peloponnese is one of the most unspoiled and breathtaking areas in the Mediterranean, and is home to several exquisite hotels, including the new W Costa Navarino—the premier sustainable destination for luxury travel in Greece.
Greece has welcomed a new luxury resort to its mainland—the W Costa Navarino. Surrounded by unspoiled beaches and secluded coves, the W has helped further establish the Messinia area as a top sustainable travel destination for travellers, offering guests a variety of hands-on activities, from the culinary to the athletic. Costa Navarino is also home to three other 5-star deluxe hotels: The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, The Westin Resort, and the Mandarin Oriental. It’s also home to two spa centres, (Anazoe Spa and Away Spa) four signature golf courses, over 20 dining venues, and an array of 5-star services.
The W Costa Navarino, exclusively for adults and young adults over 12, brings a luxurious and inspiring energy to the Navarino Bay area of Costa Navarino, welcoming guests to a breathtaking oasis surrounded by natural beauty which includes a culinary square, a destination beach club, a watersports centre, and a boutique gym and spa.
Prime sustainable destination in Greece
Costa Navarino has a philosophy driven by a desire to promote Messinia, while protecting and preserving the beauty of the area and the cultural heritage dating back 4,500 years. Designed with respect for nature and sea views, the property was created as a Greek coastal village, promoting local culture and heritage in a sustainable yet luxurious manner, offering a world of authentic experiences while ensuring the region’s rich history and culture are preserved.
Experiences at Costa Navarino
At W Costa Navarino, guests can indulge in their surroundings by relaxing at one of the hotel’s many pools, getting a treatment at the spa, swimming in the sea, and more—like taking a wine master class, enjoying a Messinian picnic or a cheese tasting and making experience, taking village cooking lessons, or learning about olive harvesting and taking part in olive oil tasting experiences. Everything has been thoughtfully created to allow guests to experience Greece in an authentic way.
Navarino Agora
New to the W Costa Navarino is the Navarino Agora, a five-minute walk from the hotel grounds. There are hotel shuttles transporting guests to and from the agora, as well. The Agora offers 22 stylish retail stores from Greek and international brands, cosmetics stores, beachwear and eyewear boutiques, jewelry, handcrafted hats, souvenirs, and more. The Agora also has a hair salon, nail salon, and an outdoor cinema. Looking for a culinary experience? Look no further, because the Agora is home to eleven dining venues.
Accommodations
The W Costa Navarino has 246 villas, suites, and rooms. The W rooms are spacious and modern and include shared private pools located off the back balcony deck, complete with loungers, chairs, and tables. These rooms are located on the ground floor of the resort giving guests quick and easy access to the hotel’s other pools, restaurants, and easy access to the sea. Guests can also choose to stay in two-bedroom suites or W villas, for more space and privacy.
Dining
Did you know that because of Messinia’s rich soil and favourable climate, 5th century BC Greek playwright Euripedes called the area “the land of the good fruit”? Today, still, a wide range of agricultural products from the region are in demand around the world because of their superior quality—grapes, almonds, olives, figs, honey, and more. Costa Navarino prides itself on being a ‘farm-to-table’ experience. Guests can visit the vegetable garden, collect seasonal produce, and enjoy delicious meals outdoors surrounded by nature.
Costa Navarino is guided by the 17 sustainable development goals set out in the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, part of which includes supporting local food providers. At Costa Navarino, more than 60 percent of the raw ingredients used in the kitchens come from local producers.
There are several dining venues at the W: Parelia, a vibrant seaside dining venue featuring Greek cuisine with traditional recipes on the menu, like fresh fish straight from the sea, and Platia, the hotel’s centrally located culinary space with offerings for the breakfast buffet across four areas: The Bakery, The Deli, The Coffee Shop, and The Cookery. Guests can enjoy the complimentary breakfast and fill their plates with fresh baked bread, Greek yogurt, a variety of local honey, fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, eggs, and more.
Although the islands of Greece are worth a visit, exploring the mainland will make tourist fall in love with the country while being immersed in the beauty that surrounds them, while they live it up in the lap of luxury.
