CHEO, the CHEO Foundation and the annual CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery are beacons of hope in our community. We’re putting a spotlight on the gorgeous lighting in this year’s Minto Dream Home, as well as the importance of supporting the CHEO Foundation’s work.
Have you visited this year’s Minto Dream Home yet, and snapped up tickets for the 2019 CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery? The 5,689-square-foot grand prize home is a stunner.
A Minto Hampton design located at 348 Eaglehead Crescent in Stittsville, the net zero energy home has a coastal vibe, four bedrooms, a deluxe master suite, a media room and gym in the basement, plus all the must-haves for luxury family living.
It sparkles from top to bottom, especially thanks to inspired lighting. Tanya Collins of Tanya Collins Design, tanyacollinsdesign.com, was the interior designer for the project and notes, “I have always had a penchant for statement lighting.” Stylish fixtures not only elevate the décor, they also reflect top trends in lighting that may inspire you to update some of the lighting designs in your own home. Tanya highlights a few of her Minto Dream Home favourites for us.
First on her list is the turquoise beaded globe pendant in the entrance. “It makes a dramatic and vibrant statement upon entry, referencing the colour palette of the artisanal floor tiles as well as the adjacent wall panelling in the formal dining and living room.”
Another gem is the pear-shaped pendant over the kitchen table. “It is understated and elegant, drawing you [into] the centre of the open concept kitchen and family room space. It evokes much of the coastal spirit found in this room, which includes matte finishes and accents of navy blue, soft white and bleached white oak on the floors and the cabinetry.”
Many Minto Dream Home visitors have enthused about the master suite, and the bedroom’s capiz shell chandelier is another of Tanya’s top picks. “It is light and airy but grand, anchoring the 10-foot coffered ceiling. Capiz shells come from the Pacific Ocean, [and] are plentiful in the Philippines. Historically they were used as sun catchers and in some instances as stained glass in churches. The shells on this light fixture make a soothing wind chime sound when a breeze hits them, adding a soft and romantic feeling to the bedroom.”
When you tour the two-storey residence in Potter’s Key, you may also notice the shape of the different lighting looks. “All these lights have a circular form or detail in common,” Tanya points out. “They are a bit bohemian in style, reflecting the naturalness, informality, and free-spiritedness found in a seaside retreat, which was largely my inspiration for the Dream Home.”
The Minto Dream Home is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, until December 6.
